MDA was the Campus Landscape/Civil Consultants with Hussey, Gay, Bell & DeYoung (HGBD), the Project Prime Consultant for this creative re-use project for Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS). MDA’s Scope included performing full Landscape Architectural/Civil Engineering Scope of Services. Design commenced in August, 2011 and Construction was substantially complete in late 2013. MDA played a pivotal role in initial Master Planning preparing multiple design scenarios before proceeding with full Site Construction Documentation.
The 1980’s vintage warehouse required extensive interior and exterior improvements to phase the educational programs (Middle School now and a Future Elementary School); and to continue use of a portion of the existing building for a GCPS warehousing facility. MDA was relied upon to design site improvements to minimize land disturbance for stormwater/water quality management; and to make the select removal and careful protection of existing mature trees and plant material that now handsomely present this new Northbrook Middle School facility. MDA designed the grading, drainage and site fencing scheme for the new Middle School Playfield and the simple landscape/hardscape site improvements.
MDA participated extensively in the Milestone Reviews with HGBD and GCPS; and carried the Project through all Site Permitting. MDA performed Construction Administration and throughout Project Construction preparing Site Reports, reviewed Material Submittals and answering Requests for Information. Opinions of Probable Construction Costs were continually updated and evaluated against Project Budgets throughout the design process to insure compliance with GCPS goals; and a final VE Phase was utilized to finalize the final Design Concept and Specifications.
